Cypress Lawn’s Fifth Annual Arboretum Day

Cypress Lawn’s Fifth Annual Arboretum Day

Arboretum Day is a special yearly event that provides families in the Bay Area the chance to celebrate the annual autumnal tree-planting tradition of Colma. For the fifth year in a row, we’ll come together on Saturday, November 16, to learn about and honor our remarkable tree collection at Cypress Lawn. We invite you and your family to head to the main entry lawn of our East Campus in front of our historic Noble Chapel, where we’ll experience a day filled with fun activities, insightful presentations, and hands-on education—all free to the public.

Arboretum Day Activities

This year’s Arboretum Day kicks off at 11 a.m., with Arboretum Director Josh Gevertz delivering the Annual Arboretum Address titled “Speaking for the Trees” at Noble Chapel. From noon on, various tree learning stations will open up, each one hosted by Arboretum Allies—local tree experts and active members of our San Francisco community. At each of these stations, you’ll learn about interesting, tree-related topics like pruning and climbing with care. After stopping by each of these stations, you’ll get a stamp on your Plant Passport, a fun way to acknowledge all that you’ve learned from this educational experience.

After enjoying a delicious complimentary lunch from Dulzura Café, bob your head to live music from local legend BanjerDan! Take part in interactive lawn games and other tree-related activities. Later in the afternoon, we’ll wrap up the day with a celebratory tree planting by our original entry archway, honoring the fifth annual Arboretum Day. This planting represents not only our dedication to the past but also our vision for the future.

Join us in honoring Cypress Lawn Arboretum’s vibrant history and inspiring legacy—132 years and growing!

About Cypress Lawn Arboretum

The Cypress Lawn Arboretum harkens back to our founder, Hamden Holmes Noble, and his belief in the healing power of trees. Our Arboretum is internationally recognized and features over 100 species and nearly 3,000 individual trees. Many of our trees are over a century old and can be enjoyed by anyone who visits our Memorial Park. Arboretum Day is a fantastic time to experience the Arboretum in all its beauty, along with members of our community. If you can’t join us at Cypress Lawn on this day, a visit to the Arboretum any time of year offers a wonderful chance to experience nature in all its beauty!
