As devoted members of the Bay Area community, our friendly Cypress Lawn staff members understand the importance of preserving the natural beauty of our area. Since 1892, our memorial park has served as one of our community’s horticultural landmarks. Our founder, Hamden Holmes Noble, understood the power of trees and connecting with nature. The Cypress Lawn Arboretum is an internationally recognized botanical garden featuring over 100 species and nearly 3000 individual trees. We encourage families in our community to visit the Arboretum to experience the power of nature in living form.
Explore a wide variety of trees.
The Arboretum’s living collection includes trees indigenous to every continent in the world (except for Antarctica) along with many native Californian trees and woody plants. Some trees you might be surprised to see in our collection include labeled specimens from the Australasia region, China, Japan, Africa, South America, and the East Coast of the United States. We are proud to have such a diverse collection including many trees that are over a century old.
Attend an in-person tree tour.
We welcome families in our community to hop on our historic trolley to explore the historic East Campus of Cypress Lawn. Our oldest and most remarkable trees can be found in this beautiful area, with some original plantings dating back to the days of our founder, Hamden Holmes Noble. On this tour, you’ll have a chance to walk among these towering trees and learn more about the proactive tree care the Arboretum staff employs to keep these trees healthy and thriving.
