By Bob Gordon Jr., President and CEO of Cypress Lawn
If you’ve ever attended a funeral for a veteran, there may be moments that were so meaningful you can recall them months or even years later.
Maybe it was the playing of Taps or the ceremonial folding of the American flag. Maybe you can still feel your throat tighten with emotion when you think of the flag being presented to the grieving family.
Here at Cypress Lawn, I speak for our entire team when I say that we count it a tremendous privilege to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans. Over the past century, Cypress Lawn has forged a deep relationship with many veterans and their families across San Francisco as we hold funeral services and lay beloved veterans to rest within our peaceful and beautiful Memorial Park.
With Veterans Day 2022 behind us, we continue to think of those who have served both in wartime and peacetime. Americans are putting their lives on the line for the sake of our country, and we want to support them in any way we can.
One practical way we come alongside veterans is through the Journey to Serve initiative, which highlights our commitment to recruiting and hiring veterans at all of our funeral home and cemetery locations across the Bay Area. We hope that we can help veterans start the next chapter of their lives and advance their careers and professional development. We need caring, competent, and mission-driven employees, and it’s no secret that veterans exemplify all these attributes.
Here at Cypress Lawn, we think it’s important to remember our veterans both in life and in death — not just on Nov. 11, but every day. If you are interested in learning more about how we help veterans now and at the end of life, contact us anytime through our website or by calling us at (650) 550-8808.
