When the summer heat fades and the cooler air sets in, our community welcomes the onset of fall. This season has a lot of symbolic meanings, but many people may not be aware of the important themes autumn brings to light. Animals squirreling away food in preparation for the winter evoke ideas of preservation, comfort, and protection. The autumnal equinox, wherein day and night are the same lengths, reminds us of the importance of balance in our everyday lives. Falling leaves remind us of letting go. This season invites us to acknowledge life’s fallow periods, something that may resonate with those who are currently grieving a loss.

Celebrating the Season at Cypress Lawn

Fun seasonal events are another reason to visit Cypress Lawn in the fall. We host an annual Chung Yeung celebration, also known as the Double Ninth Festival, on the ninth day of the ninth month, which the Chinese consider to be an auspicious day. Some Chinese people visit the graves and memorials of their ancestors to commemorate this special day. Our Dia de los Muertos event is a vibrant celebration of the festive Mexican holiday that’s celebrated acrossthe world each year. Both these events are held at the Hillside Gardens campus of Cypress Lawn.
