Obituary for Besilda Yumang Nalus

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Besilda Yumang Nalus (Bessie), who left us on August 4, 2024, at Kaiser Hospital in South San Francisco, CA. She was 68 years old.

Bessie was born on July 23, 1956, in Macabebe, Pampanga, Philippines, to Felicisimo A. Yumang, Sr. and Bernardita N. Palad, and Estela B. Yumang (second mother). She grew up surrounded by her siblings Freddie P. Yumang, Francis P. Yumang, Ferdinand P. Yumang, Belinda Y. Morales, Felicisimo B. Yumang, Jr., and Rev. Fr. Federick B. Yumang, SMM.

Bessie and Nicanor Q. Nalus, Jr. were united in marriage on June 11, 1972, at San Rafael Parish Church Macabebe, Pampanga. They made their home in Daly City, CA where Bessie enjoyed a meaningful and fulfilling life. She was a dedicated employee at Rhoda Goldman Plaza Assisted Living and found success as a real estate investor.

She studied at Macabebe Central School and Assumption College in San Fernando, Pampanga.  Young and beautiful, she was very popular where on many occasions she served as Reyna Elena on Santacruzan and as muse of basketball teams. She played the piano, at one time a champion in a contest in a popular TV show in Manila. A dedicated employee, she was named Employee of the month on several occasions.

Bessie was passionate about cooking, playing the piano, spending time with family, and embarking on road and food trips. She was known as a compassionate, patient and a very determined person, as shown when she fulfilled her dreams to live with her family in the US and remained a loving wife to Buddy who both successfully raised their children, with the whole family keeping their strong Kapampangan values. Bessie’s life blessings in the US kept her closer to her parents and siblings in the Philippines.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Nicanor Q. Nalus Jr., and their children: Bernadette N. Cuenca (Richard D. Cuenca, son-in-law) and Romel Y. Nalus (Catherine A. Nalus, daughter-in-law). Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Maria Elizabeth Paras, Raiden N. Cuenca, Darren A. Nalus, Derek N. Cuenca, Jordan N. Cuenca, and Jacob A. Nalus.

Bessie’s legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity will be deeply missed
