Cypress Lawn Funeral Home

Ching Ming Lee (nee Hsing), also known to many as Irene, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, in San Francisco, California, preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Lee in 1999. Irene was born in Hong Kong on January 24, 1937 and moved to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War. Irene immigrated to the United States in 1958 to be with her husband, who was working in San Francisco. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a caring friend and a pillar of strength to her family.

Irene was an industrious young woman, who upon arriving in the U.S. worked multiple jobs and through hard work and determination, she opened her business – Irene Lee Decorator’s Service, in the early 1960s. Despite the many obstacles, her limited English speaking skills and resources, she grew a successful business that operated for over 50 years serving creative interior designers, leaving a lasting impact on the industry. Irene’s dedication to her craft was unwavering, leaving behind a legacy of excellence. She retired at 81.

Irene enjoyed family gatherings, especially when they involved food, practicing Taoism and
watching mysteries, thrillers, and political commentaries. She found joy in the simple things, like reading the Chinese daily newspaper, playing mahjong, and visiting casinos with friends. In her later years, she embraced technology and learned to use the iPad, where she explored spiritual teachings, and watched her favorite cooking, drama and comedy shows, including cute animal videos.

She touched the lives of many with her kind heart and gentle spirit and will be remembered for her strong work ethic, steadfast loyalty, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by her
daughter, Theresa Lee (Bryce Sutherland); son, Howard Lee (Bi Hwa Tseng); grandchildren,
Derrick and Michelle Lee and Alexandra Sutherland; her siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, colleagues and many friends old and new.

A private family memorial service was held at Cypress Lawn, Noble Chapel on January 17,
2025 in Colma, California.

Irene did countless deeds of kindness, always giving and never expecting any favors in return, may she rest in peace, knowing that she was cherished by many.
