Dennis Michael Hook, 65. Born May 31, 1960 in San Mateo and passed away December 7, 2025. Beloved son of the late William H. Hook and Annie Dina (Gava) Hook. Pre-deceased by loving grandparents the late William and Betty Hook. Pre-deceased by adoring grandparents the late Vittorio and Alma Gava. Survived by daughter Denise and son Alex, grandchildren Connor and Molly, brothers Gary, Jeff, Brian, and Craig, and nephews William, Colin and Aidan.
Dennis attended Sunnybrae School, Borel Middle School and Aragon High School. He enjoyed acting in school plays and at the San Mateo Central Park Shakespeare in the Park, performing in Damn Yankees, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Wizard of Oz (The Tin Woodsman), The Tempest, and The Crucible. Dennis was in BSA Troop 12 and enjoyed camping, Lake Tahoe, fishing, playing guitar, fixing his mini-bike, and family gatherings.
Dennis worked as a Computer Draftsman in the early days of tech. He loved animals, especially his cats, and enjoyed urban gardening, making homemade bread and spring rolls and sharing with family and friends. Dennis had artistic and eclectic interests since childhood and drew sketchbooks and also professionally. He loved his children, using his telescope to stargaze with his daughter and visiting tide pools.
Service at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s in San Mateo on December 22 at 10:00 am, followed by burial at St. John’s Cemetery San Mateo.
Memorial donations can be made to the Peninsula Humane Society or to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul of San Mateo County.
