FLORENCIA RECUPERO PINEDA

Feb 24, 1926 – Jan 4, 2026

Florencia Recupero Pineda was born in February 24,1926 and passed away peacefully last January 04, 2026 – a life well lived for almost 100 years. Born and raised in Uacon, Candelaria, Zambales, Philippines, she was the second among the 3 daughters of Antonio Dumlao Recupero and Aurea Fontelera Barrera.

In 1940’s, Florencia met and married Mapun Uy, a migrant, who she spent time with as a homemaker raising their 10 children.  Mapun was a businessman, and together they ran and owned a food manufacturing factory in Paco Manila, which burned down in 1963.  In addition, they were also a big retailer and merchant in most regions of Zambales and Pangasinan on production of Bagoong – a salted fermented condiment made from either tiny shrimp/krill (bagoong alamang) or fish (like anchovies).  Sadly, Mr. Mapun died of a heart attack in 1962.

In mid-1960’s, Florencia went back to live in her hometown at Uacon, Zambales.  She met Valeriano Fuentes Pineda, whom she married and had 2 children.  While in her hometown, she helped manage and assist farmers on their rice plantation and harvested mangoes from their ancestral land.  She also enjoyed playing mahjong and cards with family and friends.  Florencia was highly respected by everyone around her because of her continuous generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand.  She will be remembered as kind-hearted person, humble, loving, caring and helpful to others in need.  In 1997, Florencia migrated to Guam and then moved to San Francisco Bay Area in 2000 with her husband, Valeriano who passed in 2020.

May the memories of Florencia’s love and kindness comfort all who knew her in this time of loss.  May her legacy as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend inspire us to live with greater compassion and appreciation for the simple joy that life brings. May God’s perpetual light shine upon her and her soul rest in peace, Amen.
