George Volikakis
Mar 13, 1932 – Mar 25, 2024

George Volikakis, 92, of Millbrae, CA passed away on March 25, 2024 surrounded by family.
Born on March 13, 1932 in Vrisses Apokoronou, Crete, Greece, George immigrated to Fort Wayne, IN in 1959 after WWII via Canada. After meeting his former wife, Lida, he settled in the San Francisco Bay Area where they started his business, G.V. Trucking and Materials in 1964.
“GV” as he affectionately came to be known, was an extremely talented mechanic/repairman and proud of his Cretan Heritage/Greek roots; he was the chapter president of the Pancretan Association of America, an amateur Bouzouki player and home vintner. He had an enormous heart, wonderful sense of humor, and was full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his varied life experiences.
Family was of the utmost importance to GV. He truly enjoyed welcoming family and community into his home as often as possible to celebrate life especially during the holiday where greek food and his homemade wine were plentiful.
George is survived by his loving wife, Galina; son, Christos Volikakis; grandchildren, Nikolas and Kiara Tomasello; sister, Zabia Makreas; nephews, Nick (Kaye Kramer) Makreas and Kosta (Hollis Polk) Makreas; nieces, Pagony Makreas, Antonia Kowtko and Pagona Avdoulos; and cousins, Katina and Mary Goniotakis; former wife, Lida Stelmashenko, and goddaughter, Irene Antipariotis. He has numerous other relatives in California, Seattle, WA, Las Vegas, NV, Fort Wayne, IN, Sarasota, FL, and internationally, in Canada, Greece, and Ukraine.
George was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Anastasia Tomasello; son-in-law, Jim Tomasello; granddaughter, Tatiana Tomasello; his beloved brother, Manousos; sister-in-law, Kalliopi; mother-in-law, Stefania; and niece, Mary Makreas.
The trisagion service will be held at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s Funeral Home in San Mateo, CA on Tuesday, April 02, 2024 at 7:00pm. The funeral service will take place at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Belmont, CA on Wednesday, April 03 at 11:00am followed by a graveside service at Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma, CA at approximately 12:30p.m. All services will be officiated by the Reverend Peter G. Memories
-
I will never forget how George and Galina always used to visit my parents home in Crete every time they would come from the US in the summer. It was such a joy to see them both and spend time with them. Always positive, well-meaning, caring, supportive, genuine. Thank you, George and Galina, for being part of my life and for all your love to my parents and me.
