Gloria Restauro, aged 77, passed away on Friday, September 13,
2024, at UCSF Parnassus, San Francisco, CA, after a hard fought
battle with cancer and renal disease. She was born on March 14,
1947, in Calbayog City, Samar, Philippines, to Patricia Buracan
and Benito Eugenio. Gloria immigrated to the United States,
where she worked tirelessly to provide for her family, pursuing
an education while balancing multiple jobs. She eventually found
a career with the Department of Defense, proudly serving in the
US Army Finance & Accounting Department and later at the US
Marines Corp Officer Recruiting Station in Alameda, CA, until
her retirement. Gloria married Virgilio Restauro on October 25,
1972, at Corpus Christi Church, and together they built a life
filled with love and family.
Gloria had a passion for travel, exploring the country and the
world. She took memorable trips to cities like Dallas, Seattle, and
Vancouver, and later enjoyed visits to Yosemite and New York. In
2017, she returned to the Philippines for the first time in 60
years, reconnecting with family and revisiting her hometown and
the church where she was baptized. Gloria also traveled
internationally, visiting Lourdes, France, and the Middle East,
including the birthplace and burial site of Jesus. These journeys
brought her immense joy and fulfillment, leaving cherished
memories for her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Virgilio Restauro, her son
John Restauro, and her beloved sister Precy Rivera, who resides
in the Philippines. Gloria also leaves behind numerous nephews
and nieces both in the Philippines and in the United States, as
well as her lifelong best friend and comadre, Norma Gamboa.
Gloria will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her infectious
smile, kindness, resilience, and love for her family left an
indelible mark on those around her.
