“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal , love leaves a memory no one can steal .”

We gather to honor and remember the life of Héctor Antonio Varela, a proud son of the Bay Area, who passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Héctor carried that pride with him throughout his life. It shaped his loyalties, his passions, and the way he connected with the world around him.

Héctor was a man defined by his strength, his heart, and his presence. He carried himself with quiet dignity, yet had a kindness and childlike spirit that immediately endeared him to almost everyone he met. There was something about Héctor that made people feel comfortable, welcomed, and valued from the very first moment.

He built his life around the things that mattered most—family, loyalty, hard work, and love. Héctor believed in showing up, doing what needed to be done, and standing firm for the people he cared about. He was someone others could count on without question.

Cooking was one of Héctor’s true passions. As a professional chef, he didn’t just prepare meals—he brought people together. The kitchen was where his creativity, care, and generosity shined. Feeding others was one of the many ways he showed love, and many memories were made around meals he proudly prepared.

Héctor’s Bay Area pride also showed in his unwavering loyalty to his teams. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland A’s. Game days were serious—full of passion, opinions, and pride that he loved sharing with those around him.

Those who knew Héctor will especially remember how incredibly witty and amusing he was. His humor, quick remarks, and lighthearted way of looking at life brought smiles to countless faces and made even ordinary moments memorable.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ruth Amya; his grandmother, Angela Flores; and his uncle, Juan Flores, along with many other family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply.

Héctor Antonio Varela is deeply missed and forever remembered. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time we had with him and the lasting mark he left on our lives.

May he rest in peace.
