James “Bibot/Puti” Carigo was born on June 25, 1958, in San Guillermo, Morong, Rizal, to Ignacio† and Aquilina† Carigo. He was one of several siblings: Taldok, Pacio†, Fely†, Apin†, Lerma, Junior, and Lito.
He completed his early education in the Philippines, attending San Guillermo Elementary School and St. Jerome’s Academy, Batch ‘76 before pursuing a law degree at San Sebastián College. He went on to serve as a Legal Officer with the Agrarian Reform Office, a role he held for several years prior to immigrating to the United States in the 1990s.
After settling in the U.S., James worked for over two decades as a clerk at the ARCO gas station on Washington Street in Daly City. There, he became more than a familiar face. Relatives, friends, and community members stopped by not only for gas, but to see him—sharing stories, laughter, and brief moments of connection. In these everyday encounters, James quietly became part of many people’s routines.
Outside of work, James found joy in simple pleasures. He loved to cook, enjoyed trips to the casino, and was rarely seen without a beanie on his head. His infectious smile and playful sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
James is survived by his siblings, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Though he is no longer with us, he remains deeply remembered and profoundly missed.
May he rest in peace and live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
