Jose Sy Co, known to his loved ones as Joe, peacefully passed away on January 25, 2024, due to congestive heart failure. Born on December 2, 1941, in the Philippines, Joe lived a life filled with love, compassion, and cherished moments. Though his formal education ended with high school, Joe possessed a wisdom that surpassed any diploma. His calm demeanor, thoughtful nature, and caring heart were evident in every interaction. Joe’s compassion knew no bounds, and he had an extraordinary ability to empathize with others, always offering a patient ear and a comforting presence. Outside of his professional life, Joe found joy in various hobbies. He had a green thumb and spent countless hours tending to his garden, nurturing vibrant flowers and lush plants. Joe also had a sharp mind and enjoyed the mental challenge of chess, card games, and Sudoku puzzles. Additionally, he found peace and discipline in practicing martial arts, which allowed him to maintain physical and mental well-being. Joe’s proudest role was being a loving spouse to his wife, Lolie, and a devoted father to their son, Jonathan. As a grandfather to Calyb and Cian, he cherished every moment spent with them, relishing in their laughter and watching them grow. His family meant the world to him, and he treasured the memories created during family get-togethers, cheering on the 49ers during football games, enjoying movies together, and taking long walks filled with meaningful conversations. A gentle soul has left us, but his memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Joe’s legacy will be carried on by those whose lives he touched, and his impact will continue to resonate. The memorial ceremony to honor Joe’s life will be held at Olivet Chapel, Cypress Lawn, located at 1651 Hillside, Colma, CA, on February 10, 2024, at 9:00 AM. For any inquiries regarding the ceremony, please contact Jonathan Co at 415-987-1189. In lieu of flowers, the Co Family kindly requests memorial donations to be made in Joe’s honor. Details regarding donation arrangements can be obtained at the ceremony. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held at Fort McKinley, situated at 101 Brentwood Drive, South San Francisco, CA. This gathering will provide an opportunity for friends and family to share stories and memories of Joe, celebrating a life well-lived. As we bid farewell to Joe, let us remember the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Joe Sy Co, you have succeeded in touching our lives with your gentle spirit and unwavering love. May you rest in eternal peace.
