Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Justino Villar Jr., known to his grandchildren as Papa Tino, on October 27th in San Mateo, CA. He was 90 years old.

Born in San Francisco on August 21st, 1935, to parents Justino Sr. and Maria Villar, he was the 7th of 8 children. He graduated from Mission High School in 1953 before beginning his 42-year career with Safeway, working at stores up and down the peninsula. Additionally, he was an accomplished musician and singer, with the guitar being his instrument of choice. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and cheering on his favorite teams: the Giants, Warriors, and 49ers. If any of his teams were playing, we could count on him watching intently, often with heavy criticism if the quality of play did not meet his high standards. He had a special passion for baseball and found time to coach all 7 of his children in the sport. Throughout the 1970’s and 80s, he coached hundreds of kids throughout the peninsula. His coaching touched many young lives, and his legacy will live on for generations.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Dolores “Dolly”, former wife Guadalupe Ceseña Villar, sisters Virgina Villar, Carmen Miller (Gordon), and Connie Parra, and children Justino III (Audrey), AnnaMaria (Gilbert), Luis (Patricia), Reuben (Rebecca), David (Robin), Raymond (Rocio), and Michael (Denise). He also leaves behind 25 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and dozens more nieces and nephews. Additionally, he leaves behind step-children Julie (Kevin), Steve, and Michael (Kelly), 4 step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great grandchildren.

Visitation begins at 5:30pm followed by a Rosary at 7pm on Thursday, November 6th at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s Funeral Home in San Mateo. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on November 7th at St. Timothy Catholic Church in San Mateo. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
