“Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them,”
Lucio Cabanada Gementera passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at 86 years old. He was born December 13, 1938 in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines to his parents Hilario Gementera and Maria Cabanada.
The meaning of Lucio’s name is light, as he illuminated his passions for his family, working and retiring through convention services at the Hyatt Regency, serving the Lord through his Catholic Church, and was an active member of the Santo Nino de Praga of Makati San Francisco chapter. In his leisure he enjoyed sports, horse races, and especially visits to the casino to indulge in the video poker machines. His tireless work ethic ensured a better life for his family and stood as a testament to his selflessness and perseverance. Although Lucio’s life did include challenges, it was a life rich in love, faith, and laughter. He will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle demeanor, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family.
Lucio is predeceased by his beloved wife Ligaya, and his siblings Bonifacio, Tomas, Isidoro, and Anita. He is survived by his sisters Josefina and Raymunda (Emy), his son (Robert), grandchildren (Jalessa, Jeanine, Robert Jr), and great-grandchild (Jaxson) – who will forever carry his legacy in their hearts.
Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind – a life of kindness, joy, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his wife, family and faith, which will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace knowing that he was cherished and loved by many.
The rosary will be held Friday January 17, 2025 4:00-9:00 pm at Olivet Gardens Chapel (1651 Hillside Blvd, Colma, CA). Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 19, 12:45 pm – 2:30 pm, followed by Interment at Hillside Gardens (1701 Hillside Blvd, Colma, CA) with a reception to follow.
