Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's

Luigi Zanette, aged 81, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home in San Mateo, California. Luigi was born on September 16, 1943, to Antonio Zanette and Madelena Caterina Possamai in San Fior, Italy. At the age of 17, Luigi emigrated to America, where he met the love of his life, Miranda Peculic. The couple married in 1967 and made San Mateo their home, raising two wonderful sons, Anthony and Johnny.

Luigi’s legacy is defined by his dedication to family, his unwavering work ethic, and his boundless generosity. He is survived by his devoted wife, Miranda; his sisters, Camilla Roos and Amalia Gaiotto; his sons, Anthony and Johnny; and his adored grandchildren, Megan, Brent, Kai, and Paige. His expansive extended family and countless dear friends will forever cherish the warmth and generosity he freely offered.

Upon arriving in America, Luigi found work as a cement mason with a local contractor. In 1983, he co-founded Golden Bay Construction, eventually bringing his children into the family business.  Luigi took great pride in passing the business to his children and welcoming his grandchildren into the fold.  He never cared about what he personally had and always measured his true wealth by the care he provided for his family.  He just wanted enough to keep hunting.

Luigi’s passion for hunting, particularly for ducks, was well known. While some would say he was not the most skilled duck caller, he managed to catch more than his fair share.  His duck burgers were a beloved treat among family and friends.  Whether it was barbecuing or preparing his famous seafood pasta; no one ever left his home hungry or thirsty.  His back patio, a testament to his craftsmanship, was a hub of laughter and shared meals, where countless memories were made.

The stories of Luigi’s life, filled with adventures with friends and family, reflect his spirited character and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him.

A Mass will be held in Luigi’s honor at 10 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Church (1 Notre Dame Ave., San Mateo, CA), followed by a Celebration of Life at the Peninsula Social Club (100 N. B Street, San Mateo, CA).
