Matthew H.C. Wong
Matthew H.C. Wong was born on May 10, 1928, in Yantai, Shandong, China. While he was in college in 1946, he met the love of his life, Lee Cheong Yee. In 1949, during a time of great political change, he moved to Hong Kong. A year later, Lee Cheong Yee left Taiwan and the two were married in Hong Kong. They built a beautiful family together, raising seven children—six daughters and one son.
For 22 years, Matthew owned and operated Wong Kee Construction Company in Hong Kong, providing for his family with dedication and integrity. In 1974, he and his wife courageously brought their family to the United States, settling in San Francisco to begin a new chapter of their lives.
In America, Matthew worked at United Way and ABMI before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit once again. In 1978, he founded Geary Print Shop and later Printing Matt. Geary Print Shop remains a proud part of the San Francisco community and was recognized by the City as a Legacy Business in 2024, a testament to his hard work and enduring impact.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matthew was deeply devoted to his faith. He served as an editor and publisher of the Christian Bible newspaper and was a deacon in several Bay Area churches. His passion for ministry extended globally—he faithfully supported missionary work throughout Asia and the United States.
Matthew is survived by two siblings, six loving daughters, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. His son deceased in 1991 and his beloved wife in 2014. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his entrepreneurial spirit, his deep love for family, and the kindness and generosity he shared with everyone around him.
The memorial service will be held in October 2025 in Olivet Chapel in San Francisco.
