May Chin Dea
Apr 23, 1924 – Feb 15, 2024

May Dea (née Chin), born in Watsonville, CA on April 23, 1924, passed away on February 15, 2024, just shy of her 100th birthday. May faced many hardships and challenges throughout her 99 years, but demonstrated incredible perseverance. She lived her life to the fullest, with independence, courage, determination, and adaptability – a life replete with the love and support of family and friends. May always shared her loyalty, smile, and heart of gold. She rooted for the “underdog,” and remained steadfast in her beliefs, regardless of the opinions of others. True to her selfless nature, May consistently placed the desires and needs of her loved ones above her own.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Edward, of over 50 years. Together, they raised their cherished daughters Gail Tam (Winson), Debbie Ramos (Robert) and Judy Choy (Henry). She was the proud grandmother of Travis Tam (Teresa), Jennifer Salisbury (Kyle), Kristen Wilson (Tennyson), Melanie Franco (Victor), Jessica Roberts (Joey), and Calvin Choy (fiancée Melanie). She was an elated Great Grandmother to Tyler, Tyson, Koa, Dalen, Jace, and Claire.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Anna Low (Joseph), Joseph Chin (Vivian), and George Chin (Amy). May leaves behind her loving siblings, Betty Keh (Joseph), John Chin (Flora), and Henry Chin (dec. Alice). She was “Auntie May” to a host of wonderful nieces and nephews.
May’s family was blessed by her unconditional love. They hope to honor her memory and legacy by holding onto and sharing her values.
Mom, you’ve left indelible marks on the world and in our hearts. After all your time apart, we’re comforted knowing you will be with Daddy and the members of your family you’ve missed. Please give Daddy a hug and a kiss from us when you see him.

In the 1970s, my sisters and I were teenagers. Gail was also a teen, and Debbie and Judy were preteens. Auntie May, Uncle Eddie, and their daughters would sometimes take the Muni bus to visit my family, including my parents, Jack and Mee, and my Dads parents. The girls had fun hanging out and playing games. Debbie and Judy liked to play Twister with Virginia and Laura. We will remember Auntie May as a kind, friendly, and outgoing person with a wonderful smile. She and Uncle Eddie were so generous bringing piles of pink bakery and deli boxes containing treats and takeout food from Chinatown. Thank you and God bless. May you rest in peace in heaven. Love, Millie, Marj, Virginia, and Laura
