Sharon Jane Edwards

Jan 22, 1942 – Feb 10, 2025

Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's

Sharon Jane Edwards was born on January 22, 1942 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She died of complications of Covid 19 on February 10, 2025 in her home in Foster City, California. Her parents, (now deceased) were Helen Frances Wake Edwards, a special education teacher, and Sylvester Edwards, a high school teacher. The family moved from Indiana to Phoenix, Arizona, where they raised their 8 children. Sharon was the eldest child and was, accordingly, often regarded as another parent by her siblings.

A dedicated professor for over 50 years, Sharon taught in the department of biological sciences at San Francisco City College and the College of San Mateo. Sharon received her BA degree from Arizona State University and her MA degree from San Jose State University. As a young adult, Sharon enjoyed travel, jogging, swimming, modern dance and occasional fashion agents’ modeling assignments. She taught herself to play the piano and to sew beautiful outfits for herself and her friends. She loved to throw parties and often did so! Sharon always loved dogs, but was especially fond of German Shepherds and Cocker Spaniels and always seemed to have one or the other breed in her home. She loved well-done (burned to a crisp) steaks. Sharon was independent, self-reliant and strong. She was known to always stand up for herself and for those she loved.

Since Sharon was disabled 5 years ago, she had been assisted and attended to with great care and affection by persons in various capacities: Susan Fowle, Tracy Coleman, Felix Toledo and Alexander Williamson, among others.

Sharon is survived and remembered fondly by her 5 remaining siblings, her in-laws and by many nieces, nephews and by dozens of grandnieces, grandnephews, colleagues and friends. The family will later convene a private ceremony in her honor.
