In Loving Memory of Socorro “Cora” Herndon Goto
Socorro Herndon Goto, affectionately known as Cora, graced this world on July 23, 1929, in the Philippines, and peacefully departed at the young age of 94 on February 28, 2024, surrounded by her dear family. She was the beloved daughter of Anatalia Mesa Herndon and Joseph Guy Herndon.
Cora grew up in the town of Binangonan, Rizal, and in 1949, she entered into matrimony with Ruben Goto, embarking on a remarkable journey together. In March of 1971, Cora and Ruben, alongside their six children—Romeo, Roland, Leo, Ronnie, Rhodora, and Roselle—courageously migrated to the United States. They chose to settle in Northern California, specifically Daly City, to be near her siblings Norma and Robert.
Cora embraced the challenges and opportunities of their new life in the U.S. While contributing significantly to the hospitality industry from the late seventies into the early nineties, notably at the Vagabond Inn in San Francisco, her primary dedication was to her family. After retiring, she selflessly devoted her time to caring for her beloved husband, Ruben, and nurturing her grandchildren.
Family was the anchor of Cora’s life. She leaves behind her loving sister Norma, a pillar of support and companionship throughout their shared journey. The bond they shared was a testament to the strength of family ties and the comfort found in the presence of a beloved sister. Her children Roland (Ely), Leo (Juliet), Roselle (Junior) and daughter-in-law Nene. Her legacy extends through her eight grandchildren: Charlene, RJ (Candice), Kevin, Michael (Jerika), Aaron (Mariel), Brian, Danyel, & Cecily. As well as her four great-grandchildren: Santino, Sebastian, Jaelyn & Kylo. Predeceased by her husband Ruben, three children—Romeo, Ronnie, and Rhodora—brother Robert, and granddaughter Jelly, Cora’s spirit lives on in the hearts of the generations she touched.
Cora’s profound faith found expression in her devotion to the Catholic Church. Daily visits and prayer, alongside her sister, brought her comfort and joy, and she cherished the camaraderie of friends within the church community.
Well into her retirement years, Cora embraced the joy of exploring the world, cultivating memories that added to the richness of her life. An avid traveler, she embarked on numerous journeys, often accompanied by her dear sister Norma and her son Romeo. Together, they ventured on pilgrimages, immersing themselves in the cultural, historical, and spiritual landscapes of various destinations.
In her final moments, Cora was surrounded by the love of her family in prayer, easing her transition into eternal rest. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered and cherished.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Cora’s life during a visitation and rosary on Friday March 8, from 4-9 pm at the Noble Chapel at Cypress Lawn in Colma, CA. Followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday, March 9, at 10:30am at Saint Andrew’s Church in Daly City.
May Socorro “Cora” Herndon Goto’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory bring solace and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
