Obituary for Sofia Timbang

Sofia Timbang, born on September 30, 1928, in San Juan, La Union, Philippines, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Sofia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her faith.

Sofia married Gregorio McGuire Abogado Jr. in 1953. Their union produced Sofia’s eldest daughter, Miriam, who was 4 months old at the time of Gregorio’s untimely passing in 1954.

In 1961, Sofia married Dr. Leopoldo Timbang, Sr. They shared a beautiful life together and were married until his death in July 2006. Their union was blessed with six children. Sofia and Leopoldo’s love and partnership brought them to the United States in 1978, following Dr. Timbang’s earlier move in 1975. Miriam also joined them in 1978. Together, they built a new life in San Francisco, where Sofia’s nurturing spirit and hard work, along with Leopoldo’s dedication, were the foundation of their family’s success.

Sofia was an active member of Saint Emydius Catholic Church in San Francisco, where she found a supportive and loving community. Sofia also found a second family in the CFC (Couples for Christ) Handmaids of the Lord ministry later when she moved to American Canyon.

Sofia’s legacy includes her seven children, their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life. She was a beloved mother to Miriam & Romy, Jun & Colleen, Julita & Paul, Eddie & Connie, Maricar & Andy, Ricky & Joyce, and Mia & Dan. She was a devoted grandmother of Charles, Christian & Ashley, Curtis & Sarah, Victor & Emily, Max & Poysophon, Nathan & Veronica, Jerik, Isabella, Olivia, Richie, Jacob, Benny, and Billy. She was a cherished great grandmother to Rory & Corey.

In her professional life, Sofia worked for the Philippine National Bank before immigrating to the United States. She continued her career with distinction at Bank of America, where she was known for her diligence and dedication until her retirement.

Sofia was also known for her incredible culinary skills. Her cooking was legendary among family and friends, especially during gatherings and celebrations. She had a unique talent for creating delicious dishes that were eagerly anticipated and enjoyed by all.

In 2005, Sofia made her home in Vallejo and later in American Canyon, where she continued to be an active and cherished member of her community.

Sofia Timbang’s life was a testament to hard work, faith, and the love of family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and an unwavering spirit that will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
