Terry Sullivan, Jr., known affectionately as Terry, passed away on September 25, 2023, at the age of 54 in Foster City, CA. Born on May 24, 1969, in Redwood City, CA, Terry brought joy and light into the lives of those around him.
Terry’s eyes and smile would light up any room he walked in, instantly making everyone feel welcomed and cared for. He possessed an incredible faith in Jesus and his love for music was evident. Terry was an amazing drummer and guitarist, finding solace and joy in writing and playing music. During his college years, Terry formed a band called Sunset Red, and they performed at local venues and parties in Chico, eventually playing to sold-out shows in San Francisco. The memories of those days held a special place in Terry’s heart.
Sports played a significant role in Terry’s life, and he had an impressive knowledge of players spanning several decades. He would often share his insights during TV games, often coinciding with the announcer’s comments, bringing laughter to those around him. Terry’s love for his family was immeasurable, and he would attend Connor and Brendan’s soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and football games every weekend, cheering them on from the sideline. Traveling to visit his sons in college was a cherished tradition for Terry.
Terry had a gentle and protective nature, making his family, immediate and extended, the center of his universe. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Jenelle, and was a loving stepfather to Connor and Brendan. Terry is survived by his sister, Denise Sullivan Coll, and her husband Bill Coll, his sister Nancy Sullivan Mellen and her husband Jeff Mellen, as well as his nephew Adam Coll and nieces Lauren Coll, Katherine Mellen, Annie Mellen, Sara Mellen, and Kendra Foster. He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Sullivan Sr., and his mother, Ann Sullivan.
Terry grew up in San Mateo, CA. He attended St. Matthew’s Catholic Elementary School, Aragon High School and went on to pursue higher education at Cal State Chico. A Mass will be held in his honor on October 13, 2023 at 4:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in San Mateo. A reception will follow at Poplar Creek in San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the scholarship fund set up in Terry’s name. This fund aims to assist individuals who cannot afford addiction treatment at Clearview Treatment Programs, an organization that had a profound impact on Terry’s life. Terry Sullivan, Jr. will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faith, and his ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him. His love for music, sports, and family created a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Terry’s legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
