Teresa Soto, a loving wife, mother and church leader, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. A native of Central America, Teresa was raised in Nicaragua where she met her husband of 66 years, Pastor Rafael Soto. Teresa leaves behind her husband Rev. Rafael Soto, her six children: Marvin Soto, Nubia Limon, Leah Taylor, Martin Soto, Jacquelin Manzanares and Carolina Yuen; her 11 grandchildren: David Armando Limon, Gabriel Limon, Benjamin Limon, Amy Soto, Jacob Soto, Frank Berlanga Jr., Raquel Berlanga, Angela Manzanares, Marques Manzanares, Gabriella Yuen and Ethan Yuen; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Mario Sequeira, and sister, Silvia Sequeira.
Teresa dedicated her life to her family, church, and her community. In Nicaragua, Teresa was a college graduate and pursued a career as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper. In the United States, she was a homemaker, childcare provider, and seamstress when her children were in school, and a bookkeeper for the last 30 years.
Teresa worked tirelessly for her community and was instrumental in supporting the first Latin American Baseball League in San Franciso focused on bettering the lives of inner-city youth and young adults. She tirelessly sewed uniforms and banners for all the teams in the league for several years. She managed various projects and fundraisers, raising money for the Mission Coalition in San Francisco where her husband was an active member. Despite not comfortably speaking English, Teresa was a devoted and active PTA mother at the local schools in Daly City where she lived for over 53 years raising her children and grandchildren.
Teresa was most passionate about her Christian faith and her love for the Lord. She was one of the pioneer families to plant the first Spanish Assemblies of God church in Daly City. As an early leader of their Women’s Ministries for several years, she was an excellent role model and advocate for Christian women and continued to mentor women and young girls both locally and abroad as far as Paraguay where she donated money for many years to improve their quality of life. She was an active fundraiser for her church’s youth ministries and facilities initiatives.
After many years of active church membership, Teresa’s husband was appointed as Assistant Pastor and then as Pastor. She embraced her role as a Pastor’s wife for many years, recognizing it was a high calling which required her full support and dedication. Teresa was a prayer warrior, praying for her family and her church daily, and led many to the Lord through her prayers and exemplary life.
Teresa had many friends and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. She was buried in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life is being planned. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to any of the following organizations she supported: 1. Childhope childhopeonline.org, 2. Alzheimer’s Association alz.org, or 3.
